Six Sigma Training: Choosing a Certifying Body

When it comes to Six Sigma training, regardless of belt color, there is more than one way to become certified. You have to first decided between Six Sigma or Lean Six Sigma, and then choose a certifying body to earn your belt through. We offer Six Sigma training courses developed by Master Black Belts at two premier certifying bodies, ASQ and GoLeanSixSigma. 

But before you take the next step in your Six Sigma training, it’s important to know what each certifying body offers. 

Here’s a breakdown of both ASQ and GoLeanSixSigma:

 

American Society for Quality

 

Who they are

Founded in 1946 by quality experts, ASQ offers Six Sigma certifications in Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Black Belt, and even Master Black Belt. In fact, it offers 18 different certifications and has certified nearly 180,000 professionals around the world.

 

Certification exams and fees

Candidates take ASQ certification exams at a Prometric testing facility, and the test is delivered in a secure, proctored environment.

Exam fees vary based on the certification you choose to earn but the current costs are:

  • Six Sigma Yellow Belt – $394
  • Six Sigma Green Belt – $438
  • Six Sigma Black Belt – $538

These fees do not include membership in ASQ, however members will save $100 off the cost of each exam. Exam cost is included in many of our Six Sigma training courses!

ASQ certifications for Yellow and Green Belts are lifetime certifications, meaning that you never have to recertify. Six Sigma Black Belts must recertify every three years through ASQ. Work experience is required and no education waivers are granted for certification eligibility.

 

Benefits outside certification

GoLeanSixSigma

 

Who they are

GoLeanSixSigma was founded to make learning Lean Six Sigma principles easily understandable and accessible to everyone.

This organization combines both Lean principles and Six Sigma methodologies and offers Lean Six Sigma Black Belt, Green Belt, and Yellow Belt certifications. It’s founders are Lean Six Sigma experts with decades of experience in Fortune 500 companies and government organizations. Not only has GoLeanSixSigma made their body of knowledge practical and extensive, they also have the highest rated Lean Six Sigma courses.

 

Certification exams and fees

All GoLeanSixSigma certification exams are multiple choice and include an unlimited number of retakes. However, the Black Belt exam includes project, storyboard and summary components in addition to the multiple choice exam.

Exam fees vary based on the certification you choose to earn but the current costs are:

  • Lean Six Sigma Yellow Belt – $299
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt – $999
  • Lean Six Sigma Black Belt – $1,999

However, our Lean Six Sigma training courses include the exam cost!

Certifications for Yellow and Green Belts are lifetime certifications when earned through GoLeanSixSigma. However, Lean Six Sigma Black Belts must recertify every four years through GoLeanSixSigma. Green Belt certification is a prerequisite for the Lean Six Sigma Black Belt certification.
