5 DIY Tricks to Win Your Ugly Holiday Sweater Contest
It’s almost that time again – the ugly holiday sweater contest has become a favorite competition among friends and coworkers. It’s become so popular that major retailers are now stocking ugly holiday sweaters available for purchase.
If you want to avoid having the cookie-cutter sweater straight from the shelves, here are 5 ways to DIY your ugly holiday sweater.
Revamp a thrift store sweater. You can easily find a retro Christmas sweater at a local thrift shop, but why stop there? Add on as many tacky holiday items as possible; you can even include bells!
Buy an inexpensive sweater, and add your own flair. You can find an inexpensive sweater for around $10 at most major retailers. Add holiday-themed embellishments to an inexpensive sweater, like these holiday men’s ties.
Incorporate actual holiday decor. If you have extra tinsel, bows, even lights, add them to your sweater to make it even more festive.
Use items around the house. You don’t have to shop for items to add to your sweater. Do you have cotton balls? Sew them on your sweater into the shape of a snowman. Candy canes? Add them to the front of your sweater for an easy holiday spin.
Add dimension. Take your sweater to the next level by adding a 3D effect. Give your snowman a nose or fill Santa’s suit to give him a jolly belly. Having certain holiday elements extend from the surface of the sweater makes it more fun!
