5 Ways to Answer The Dreaded Interview Question: “Why Should We Hire You?”
Why Should We Hire you? When interviewers ask this question, it’s your chance to convince them you’re the best candidate, shine, and seal the deal! If you lack confidence and aren’t concise in your response, however, you could drift down a slippery slope. Here are 5 ways to ace your next interview response!
1. Make an Intersection
Intersect how having you on board will benefit both you and the company. You can do this by showing you are enthusiastic about the position, experienced and skilled in the career field, and that you look forward to building your skills by taking on this next role.
2. Discuss Accomplishments
Use the question as an opportunity to discuss specific accomplishments and projects that illustrate your related skills. Focus on how your past contributions helped the previous company and how your expertise could benefit the company you are currently interviewing for.
3. Be Enthusiastic
Show your enthusiasm! No matter how well you answer the questions, you want the hiring manager to know that you’re genuinely motivated and excited about the position! Just make sure that your zeal isn’t so over the top that it makes you look desperate. There’s a big difference in making the impression that you genuinely want the job and need the job.
4. Avoid Exaggeration
A lot of times, exaggeration can be transparent to the interviewer. Try to relax and avoid long tangents. When selling your attributes, also be cautious of brevity. Try to be as specific and honest as possible in your responses so that your answers aren’t deflated by your reference checks.
5. Solve a Current Problem
Use the interview as a way to get to know more about the company and ask relevant questions pertaining to your position. Generally, if you ask the right questions, you will learn more about the goals of your hiring manager. If applicable, illustrate how your expertise could be an asset for any issues, problems, and/ or projects that need to be completed and solved.
