Brian’s GRE Prep Course Experience
Brian A. wanted to pursue a graduate degree but wanted to take a GRE prep course prior to tackling his exams. Here’s his story:
In order to understand my experience with ed2go, place yourself in my shoes exactly one year ago today. Working full time at a struggling non-profit in Santa Cruz, I would come home to my apartment, knowing there was far more work to be done.
As I opened up my computer to do some research, a quiet, distant sound of a barking sea lion on the wharf entered my apartment. At this time in my life, I had made the decision to apply to graduate school, but that meant one thing: locking yourself in isolation all day and taking the GRE’s. If graduate school was this light at the end of the tunnel, the GREs were like 100 Storm Troopers from The Empire Strikes Back blocking that tunnel.
For weeks, I researched ways to up my game for the GRE, looking at prep courses with astronomical prices over the hill in San Jose. Searching online one September evening, I found ed2go GRE Prep courses. I decided to take the verbal preparation course, offered for just $109 dollars, and as it turns out, this was one of the best investments I’ve made in my future.
At about one fifth of the price, I could go over exercises at any time, and at my own leisure. I usually have difficulty absorbing information from a computer screen, but the content and the instruction were incredibly insightful, clear, practical, and proved to be invaluable for my GRE test. The ed2go course made me a better test taker, a better writer, and substantially better at reading comprehension.
When I drove over the hill for my exam on November 17, I found solace in the tools I now had in my toolkit. Building confidence is essential. Traditionally a horrible standardized test taker, I ended up scoring above average on my writing practical as well as the verbal section. And surprise, surprise, I got into graduate school for Applied Marine Science at CSU Monterey Bay!
Now sitting here, as an incredibly overwhelmed graduate student, I am constantly humbled with how little I know. But one things I do know, is that for just 100 bucks, I upped my game for the GRE in just 8 weeks, sitting on my own couch, eating my own snacks, and consequently, I learned that I could take hold of my own future.
