Mary Sue Is Now A Published Writer!
Our student’s keep inspiring us with their determination, tenacity, and will to succeed. Mary Sue O. was able to get her poetry and articles published in magazines after taking our Beginners Guide to Getting Published and Beginning Writer’s Workshop courses! On top of that, she is working on finishing a children’s book! Here’s her ed2go Story:
In June, I retired after 25 years of teaching special needs students. One of my first goals was to reach my aspiration of becoming a writer. My first ed2go class was Beginners Guide to Getting Published.
LeeAnne Krusemark taught me valuable information about gaining credibility, writing a cover letter that will appeal to editors, and how to submit a professional manuscript. The most important thing I learned in this course was that getting published is not for the faint hearted. It takes a lot of determination and tenacity to get published.
I really enjoyed the interaction with other aspiring writers. One of our assignments was to write a letter to the editor of the local newspaper. That assignment took me out of my comfort zone, but I did it and my letter was published! I had positive comments from several people who read it. Since completing this course, I have also entered 8 contests and have sent poems and articles to magazines.
My next course from ed2go was Beginning Writer’s Workshop. I wanted to brush up on the basics and get the creative juices flowing. From instructor, Ann Linquist, I learned that writing is not a profession, but a way of life. She encourages writers to trust themselves. I loved the dynamic interaction with the other students in this class.
My latest project is a children’s book. I have gotten my family involved. One of my grandsons posed for pictures. He willingly participated. My husband is doing the photographs. I plan on paying to publish this book through a small local publisher. I am taking a big risk, but I consider it a learning experience. These courses have given me the knowledge and confidence to move forward with my writing adventure.
Thank you,
Mary Sue O.
