Important Questions to Ask in Your Next Job Interview
At the very end of almost every job interview, you’ll likely be asked if you have any questions. Asking the right questions can help you learn more about the company culture, decide whether or not the organization is a good match for you, and also reconfirm that you are a good candidate. If you decide not to ask questions, however, the recruiter might get the impression you are not enthusiastic enough about the position.
Here are 5 important questions to ask in your next job interview!
1. What skills characterize an ideal candidate?
This is a great open-ended question because it will give you a chance to see what exactly the employer is looking for. If the interviewer mentions any qualifications or experiences that you haven’t already mentioned, this is your chance to shine.
2. How has this position evolved since it was created?
This type of question will help you discover if the position is brand new or if someone else held the position before you. It could also open up the conversation and give you a chance to also ask whether or not there is room for advancement.
3. What would constitute success at this position?
This question will show that you are dedicated to becoming a successful employee. It will also give you more of an idea on what the expectations are of your hiring manager. Use these clues so that you can start your new job with goals already set in your mind!
4. Can you provide any examples of how I would collaborate with my manager?
This type of inquiry can help you discover if the environment will be dictatorial, collaborative, independent, or even a little bit of each. By now, you probably already know what type of work environment best suits you, so this question could also help you determine if the position is an overall good fit.
5. What is the next step in the hiring process?
This is a great question to save for the end of your interview. It will reiterate that you are interested in moving forward with the hiring process and that you are enthusiastic about the position!
When you go into an interview, it’s important to remember that you are interviewing the employer just as much as the employer is interviewing you. Hopefully these questions are helpful!
