Rose Conquered Lyme Disease and Found a New Career
Despite unfortunate circumstances, Rose D. was able to overcome personal misfortune through continuing education. Here is her story of how she didn’t let anything hold her back:
My story begins under unlikely circumstances. I was diagnosed with Lyme disease in February of 2013. Life was unbearable, and I was unable to work. I was housebound and bedridden for several months. I know it sounds strange, but having a debilitating disease pushed me into the world of professional writing.
I’d always wanted to write magazine articles, but I didn’t have a clue how to go about it, let alone the courage to even try. Thanks to ed2go and instructor, Eva Shaw, I’m now a successful freelance writer. I signed up for The Craft of Magazine Writing in November of 2013. I was still very ill, but being able to work at my own pace and having the online support and encouragement from the instructor and other students kept me going. Eva was forthright, full of information and constructive criticism, and encouragement.
I managed to submit all of the assignments and received such great feedback from Eva and the other students. I think it was in week four of the course that I sent a query to a regional magazine. The editor got back to me within a few hours and accepted my idea. Encouraged by such quick success, I sent a query for a second article. Not only was this accepted, but I made the front cover for that month. Nothing could stop me know. I sent queries to an online outdoors magazine. They also got back to me in quick time.
I’m happy to report, I’ve been writing for both magazines on a regular basis. I’m very excited to see where all this success is going to take me. The Craft of Magazine Writing and Eva gave me the tools and confidence I needed to break into freelance writing.
Thanks ed2go for putting me on my new career path!
