5 Ways to Motivate Your Team
In any industry, keeping a staff motivated, engaged, and innovative should be a key priority for upper management. Happy and engaged employees are more willing to go the extra mile and exceed expectations. Here are 5 team building activities that will help you create an environment that promotes innovative progress by motivating, inspiring, and engaging your staff.
Onsite Yoga
Health is wealth! Offering your staff time and space for meditation and stretching can help reduce stress levels and anxiety, thereby improving productivity. Yoga has also been shown to increase energy, improve concentration and alertness, reduce blood pressure and cholesterol, and strengthen the immune system, which may translate to less employee sick leave, better customer service, enhanced employee outlook, and an overall sense of wellbeing in the workplace.
Cook-offs
Try doing something like a chili cook-off during a cold winter month! Although not everyone likes to cook, that’s not the point. Imagine the majority of your employees participating and sitting around trying different foods that coworkers have made on a cold winter day- there’s a level of camaraderie that can be developed that won’t be found elsewhere! You can even have everyone judge favorite dishes and give away prizes as simple as annual customized cook-off mugs!
Office Competitions
Office competitions get people motivated! You can try anything from foosball tournaments, to relays, to outdoor games, to Biggest Looser-style challenges, and more. Friendly employee challenges can help boost morale as long as there is a strong level of communication and organization so that everyone can be included and know what’s going on.
Icebreakers
Before big meetings, try to take 3-5 minutes to throw out simple icebreakers. Asking questions as random as “What is your favorite word?” to “What is your favorite cereal?” to “What is your favorite sandwich?” can help uncover interesting details between coworkers and spark conversations that can also lead to creative concepts.
Brainteasers
Posting a new brainteaser in the break room or even sending it out in an email once a week can help keep people engaged. It doesn’t have to be a serious competition and the rewards can be simple, but it could be a fun way to create friendly competition. As a start, try using some of these brainteasers (posted by Forbes) to prompt creative inspiration and critical thinking within your staff!
