How to Apply for a SpouseWorks Scholarship

If you’ve ever applied for a grant or student loan, you’ve probably had to jump through a few hoops and wait (and wait, and wait) for approval. But if you’re applying for SpouseWorks Scholarship funding, good news: you could be approved in a few weeks time and start your coursework immediately.

The process might seem confusing, but we’ve partnered with SpouseWorks-approved university partners to provide training for hundreds of military spouses through the SpouseWorks program. If you’re ready to take the next step in your career training, here’s how to apply for SpouseWorks funding:

1. Choose your career path

Figuring out what you want to do for a living is the most important part of your career journey. You want to choose a career that not only excites you, but moves with you. Luckily, many of today’s careers offer flexibility and remote work opportunities, which are especially important when you’re a military spouse. Some of the top careers for military spouses include:

• Accountant
• Computer support technician
• Human resources specialist
• Medical assistant
• Paralegal
• Personal trainer
• Web designer or developer

We offer hundreds of online courses that prepare for in-demand, portable careers. And better yet, you can complete our courses anywhere, anytime it’s convenient for you! 

2. Determine your eligibility and create a SpouseWorks account

After deciding what type of career you want to pursue, you need to determine your SpouseWorks eligibility. To be eligible for the SpouseWorks Scholarship, you need to meet the following requirements:

1. You must be the spouse of an Active Duty, Guard, or Reserve member
2. Your spouse must be on Title 10 orders within the pay grades of:
   • E-1 to E-5
   • W-1 to W-2
   • O-1 to O-2
3. You will need to a high school diploma or equivalent 

If you can check all these boxes, you’re eligible to receive up to $4,000 in SpouseWorks Scholarship funding! From there, you would want to create a SpouseWorks account at the Military OneSource MySECO (Spouse Education and Career Opportunities) website.

After creating your profile, SpouseWorks will verify your eligibility with the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).

3. Choose a school that’s right for you

It’s no secret that getting trained through a top school is important for your career. Luckily, we partner with over 2,000 universities and colleges across the United States – many of which are SpouseWorks-approved and located near military communities.

And even better, our courses are entirely online so you can complete your career training anywhere. So, you can start your program in Orlando, Florida and complete it in Tacoma, Washington!

At the end of the day, you want to complete your training at a school employers will know, regardless of where you end up in the country.

4. Get in touch with an ed2go Military Support Specialist

You know what you want to do for a living and where you want to get your training — great! The next step is put this all together, which we can help you do. Beyond SpouseWorks-approved courses and partners, we pride ourselves on supporting military spouses in their education journey.

Our SpouseWorks specialists will support with you through the entire process, from helping you create an Education and Training Plan to enrolling you in the right course.

5. Create an Education and Training Plan

To get SpouseWorks Scholarship funding, you must upload a detailed Education and Training Plan (ETP) to your SpouseWorks account (see Step 2). The ETP outlines what type of career training your plan to take and why. So, here are the main items your ETP needs to cover:

1. Your name
2. School contact Information
3. Contact information for the person creating the ETP
4. Course name
5. Course type
6. Detail of all required education for the course
7. Course duration
