After 14 years as an event planner, Meghan Cross was ready for a career change.
“Because of the lifestyle, essentially,” she said. “Just long, hard hours, unpredictable, a very cyclical business.”

“I got a raise as soon as I completed the course,” Meghan said. “That was contingent upon me completing the course.”
And now, Meghan is on track for a promotion to HR generalist next year.
As an HR generalist, she can expect to take on more administrative and compliance tasks and perhaps even supervise entry-level HR teams.
She can also expect to participate more strategically in the technical and cultural roles HR plays. With the rise of human capacity management (HCM) software suites, HR generalists are often responsible for acting as liaisons between front-line employees and an organization’s leaders.

Meghan says she is ready for the challenge and encourages others to pursue their dream career.
“I would say, in general, don’t be afraid of a career change and any kind of career development course,” she said. “Especially through a self-paced program like ed2go’s.”

“Even if you change your mind and decide not to pursue the career change, knowledge is always power, and you don’t lose out on anything, essentially.”
